Slow Network Performance on SBS 2011
When using a software package that uses a Transport Driver Interface (TDI) driver you may notice slow network performance. Some antivirus programs like Trend Micro use TDI drivers.
You can download a hotfix for this problem here kb2493361
As some of you may have noticed this issue has happend before but for some reason they don’t put the fix in the SBS 2011 release, so if you have this particular problem install the hotfix.
UPDATE: The update is included with Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1, so if you do not have installed SP1 run that in stead of just downloading this update.
It’s actually not the same hotfix. It may sound the same, but the underlying issue/fix they are doing in the R2 hotfix is actually different than the 2008 one. Also this is included in Sp1.
I was not referring to the 2008 bug, but that same thing happend on windows 2008 R2 standard
I have SBS 2011 and requested this fix. I received it and applied it and I got a message saying that it was not for my OS. Seems it is still only a 2008 patch? Need this badly as I am running Trend and the Server is terribly slow. it has 12GB of Mem.
The patch in the link is also for sbs 2011 you only need to request the one that is for windows 2008 R2 (or windows 7) 64 bit that is the same kernal as sbs 2011.
But you are talking about terrible slow, is only network slow or is the server itself also slow? Because this patch is only for a specific network problem. How many users are you running on the server, 12GB is not very much for a sbs 2011 server.
I just came across that this update is included within Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 so if you already installed SP1 you should expect this message.
Interesting Post.
Looking forward to experimenting with the hotfix.
please do and share your results.
Getting the same as MikeC that it is not for SBS 2011.
Would like to hear if anyone else can install on SBS 2011.
I just cam accross that this update is included within Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 so if you already installed SP1 you should expect this message.
Strange, I just attempted to download the hotfix for a SBS2011 server and when you attempt to download it, I get a message “The KB article has no public hotfixes. Please contact support if you need immediate assistance.” So maybe Microsoft pulled the hotfix, or I need to call in to PSS to get it. Anyone else getting this?
This hotfix is a hotfix you can only receive by request. You can request the hotfix by phone or just easy fill out this webform and you will receive a download link to the hotfix.
I just cam accross that this update is included within Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 so if you already installed SP1 it is not necessary anymore. If not just install SP1 in stead of this update.
Perfect. So I will just install SP1 and not need to worry about getting this hot fix. thanks!
That’s right I just checked it and the hotfix is included in the list of hotfixes for SP1. So installing SP1 is the only thing to do.
