Recover deleted public folders Exchange 2010 with ExFolders
After someone (accidentally) deleted a exchange public folder in a exchange 2010 organization, you can easy recover the deleted folder using ExFolders. ExFolders is the exchange 2010 replacement of the PFDAVAdmin tool. ExFolders must be run on a exchange 2010 server and it can connect to Exchange 2007 or 2010.
Download the Exchange 2010 RTM ExFolders tool here and the Exchange 2010 SP1 version here.
To recover a exchange 2007 or 2010 public folder start the ExFolders tool. Choose file – Connect and select a Global Catalog and the public folder database where the deleted public folder was on.
Right click public folders and choose “Show deleted subfolders”
After that you will see the deleted public folders in red.
Select the concerning folder, right click and choose “Recover folder”. Recovery starts now just wait depends on the size of the public folder it can take a while.

There was a issue with Exfolders and Exchange 2010 SP1 because some used dll files were update. Updated the blog with a download link to the SP1 version of Exfolders. Note the Exfolders RTM version won’t work with exchange 2010 SP1 and the Exfolder SP1 version won’t work with exchange 2010 RTM.
I’ve tried this, but I get an error saying “Restore partially succeeded” and the public folder is not restored. Do you know why could this be?

This sounds great for an entire folder, what if I just need to recover an item (distribution list) from a public folder? It is within the PF deleted timeframe.

You can also recover deleted item, select the public folder which you want items to restore from. On the right site of the programs select the item tab and on the bottem you can choose deleted content.
This doesn’t work for me, nothing happens…..I am highlighting an item and then right clicking and saying “recover item” but nothing is recovered.

How do I work around the following error when trying to Connect:
“An error occurred while trying to establish a connection to the Exchange server.
Exception: The Active Directory user wasn’t found.”
I am running ExFolders.exe from the C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Bin directory as Administrator.

Thanks for the article. I just used this approach to recover an accidentally deleted public folder. One minor hiccup is that when I restored the public folder, it appeared that the email addresses associated with the public were corrupted. When I went to the email address tab, it gave an error about it not being email enabled (when indeed it was). My solution was to mail disable and then mail enable the public folder and reestablish the associated email address.
Everything else (including rules that were in the PF) appear to have been restored properly.

This has worked great in the past for me. However, I’m having trouble restoring a public folder as I’m getting an “partial restored successfully” error.
I’m using Exchange 2010 SP2. I’m assuming the problem is SP2 related, anyone fine a workaround for this yet?
I never needed this with an Exchange 2010 Sp2 server but what is exactly the problem, does the program not start or is there a problem starting the program? Any specific error

I have Exchange 2010 SP1 Ru6 and I downloaded the EXFolder version for 2010 SP1, however I get the “Recovery partially succeeded”. Does anyone have any suggestions?

For most our customers we use arcserve backup to a tape drive or ahsay online backup to an offline hosted server.

I had tried ExFolders but around 40% of the deleted folders were still missing. So, upon some Googling I got to know about Stellar’s Exchange recovery tool, which also recovers accidentally deleted folders from all Exchange server versions. I was able to restore all deleted folders with this tool.
